Islamabad: Caretaker Minister for Commerce, Industries, and Production Gohar Ejaz has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of the Interior Ministry.

The cabinet issued a notification in accordance with rule 3(4) of the Rules of Business, 1973, regarding appointment of Gohar Ejaz as interior minister.

The decision comes in the wake of Sarfraz Bugti's resignation on December 15, 2023, as he opted to participate in the upcoming elections scheduled for February 8. Despite the passage of time, the caretaker Prime Minister had not appointed a successor to the Interior Ministry until the recent announcement.

The latest reports said that  Caretaker Prime Minister had directed Gohar Ejaz to assume the role of the Interior Ministry with immediate effect.

The Interior Ministry, being a full-time portfolio, entails active collaboration with provinces on crucial law and order matters. Gohar Ejaz, known for his expertise in commerce and industries, will now play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the multifaceted responsibilities associated with the Interior Ministry.
