Youm-e-Takbeer: Pakistan marks 23rd anniversary of successful nuclear tests
Islamabad: Pakistan is marking the 23rd anniversary of successfully conducting nuclear tests today.

On this day in 1998, Pakistan carried out five successful nuclear tests in Chaghi, Balochistan followed by another one on May 30th in Kharan. The tests were conducted in response to Indian nuclear tests.
Every year, Youm-e-Takbeer is celebrated to commemorate the historic day when Pakistan became a nuclear country, in self-defence, in response to the hostile posturing by its neighbor India.
Following the successful tests, Pakistan became the seventh nation in the world to possess nuclear weapons and the first Islamic country to do so
This day holds great significance in the history of Pakistan, as it was the day Pakistan and its military and civilian leadership succeeded in achieving nuclear deterrence to ward off its regional enemies and create a balance of power to curb India’s aggressive designs and maintain peace in South Asia.
