Punjab Assembly session faces delay

Lahore: The first session of the Punjab Assembly after general elections 2024 could not start even after an hour of the scheduled time.

Speaker Sabtain Khan will preside over the meeting, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief organizer Maryam Nawaz and other newly elected members will take oath in the meeting, while, Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Chief Minister will also be elected.
Maryam Nawaz has been nominated as the chief minister by PML-N while Mian Aslam Iqbal has been nominated as the chief minister of Punjab by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).
Ahead of the meeting, strict security arrangements have been made around the Punjab Assembly, heavy police force has been deployed on Mall Road and the roads around the Assembly, while the roads adjacent to the Assembly have been closed for general traffic.
