It has been requested that PEMRA be restrained from issuing any notification or order against fundamental human rights

Islamabad: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) also challenged Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority’s (PEMRA) notification banning the reporting of court proceedings in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The application has been filed on behalf of PFUJ through Vice Chairman Islamabad Bar Council Adil Aziz Qazi.
In the petition, it is requested that PEMRA's May 21 notification banning the reporting of court proceedings be annulled.
It has been requested that PEMRA be restrained from issuing any notification or order against fundamental human rights.
In the application, PFUJ has taken a stand that on May 21, 2024, two notifications were issued by PEMRA.
The PFUJ took the stand that TV channels were ordered not to report court proceedings, but only report written court orders.
It is pertinent to note that yesterday this notification of PEMRA was challenged in the same court by Press Association of Supreme Court and Islamabad High Court Journalists Association.
