PM, MD IMF agree to strengthen bilateral cooperation
Shehbaz Sharif also appreciated technical assistance and capacity-building programs of IMF
New York: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has met the Managing Director (MD) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva.
IMF MD Kristalina Georgieva met with Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. Both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation between the government and the IMF to promote economic stability and development.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his determination to implement institutional reforms and promote the development of the private sector while appreciating the IMF's support for approving a $7 billion loan to Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif also appreciated the technical assistance and capacity-building programs of the IMF.
While supporting Pakistan's efforts on behalf of their institution, the IMF Managing Director emphasized the importance of maintaining macroeconomic stability and promoting inclusive and sustainable development.
During the meeting, they discussed the urgent need to mobilize climate change-adaptive financing, which the Prime Minister asked the Finance Minister to raise with the senior management of the IMF during the annual meetings in October.
