Special independence celebration ceremony was also organized at the Army Helipad


Gilgit: The 77th Independence Day of Gilgit-Baltistan is being celebrated on Friday with national enthusiasm and a public holiday is also observed.
Special events are being organized regarding the Independence Day. The main event was held at the Martyrs' Memorial of Chinarbagh, in which the Governor Gilgit-Baltistan, Chief Minister Baltistan, and Force Commander Gilgit-Baltistan unfurled the flag and the police patrol saluted.
A special independence celebration ceremony was also organized at the Army Helipad in which top civil and military officials participated.
On November 1, 1947, the day when Gilgit-Baltistan got its independence from the Dogra Raj, the people of Gilgit-Baltistan struggled to join Pakistan.
After the end of the Dogra Raj, the Pakistani flag was hoisted in the skies of Gilgit for the first time. In 1948, after a year of struggle, Baltistan was freed from the domination of India. Gilgit-Baltistan is also an important place in terms of tourism, economy and culture.
