Balochistan: Votes recount at 15 polling stations of PB-45
Court dismissed PPP’s Ali Madad Jatak’s appeal against tribunal’s decision
Islamabad: The Supreme Court ordered a recount at 15 polling stations in Balochistan’s PB-45 constituency.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed heard the petition.
The court dismissed the appeal of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Provincial Minister Ali Madad Jatak against the tribunal’s decision and upheld the decision of the Election Tribunal.
Justice Aqeel Abbasi told lawyer Shahzad Shaukat that the allegation in the case is of a discrepancy between Forms 45 and 47, which is clear from the record. Surprisingly, allegations related to Form 45 have come from both sides.
The lawyer said that only four copies of Form 45 have been filed by the opposing party. Justice Aqeel Abbasi replied that even one copy is enough.
Justice Irfan Saadat stated that the lawyer’s allegations were serious and that the ballot papers were missing the night before. The lawyer said that there is no basis for what the judge is saying in the decision.
Justice Aqeel Abbasi said, “Let there be some transparency in one constituency. Don’t you want transparency in at least one constituency?”
Justice Shahid Waheed added, “Do you want the elections to be declared valid based on your documents?”
Later, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal of PPP Provincial Minister Ali Madad against the tribunal’s decision, upholding the decision of the Election Tribunal and ordering a recount at 15 polling stations in Balochistan’s PB-45 constituency.
