Security Council rejected all anti-Russian European amendments and adopted US resolution on Ukraine

New York: The Security Council has approved the US resolution on Ukraine.
According to a foreign news agency, a vote was held on Monday at the United Nations on a joint resolution by Ukraine, the European Union, and a separate resolution by the United States.
First, a resolution supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity and the immediate withdrawal of Russian forces was presented in the UN General Assembly on the completion of the third year of the Ukraine war.
The resolution presented by Ukraine and the European Union referred to the Russian attack on Ukraine and demanded the withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine.
Despite strong opposition from the United States, the United Nations overwhelmingly approved the European-backed Ukraine resolution. 93 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while the United States, like Russia, Belarus, North Korea, and Sudan, voted against the resolution.
After that, a vote was held in the Security Council on a separate resolution by the United States.
The US resolution stated that the conflict should be ended immediately and a lasting peace should be established between Ukraine and Russia and that the main role of the United Nations is to enable global peace and the end of conflicts.
The resolution did not call Russia an aggressor but rather called the Ukraine-Russia conflict. The resolution expressed regret over the deaths during the conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
Russia vetoed a European attempt to amend the US resolution on Ukraine.
The Security Council rejected all anti-Russian European amendments and adopted the US resolution on Ukraine.
According to a foreign news agency, 10 countries, including the US, Russia, China, and Pakistan, voted in favor of the resolution. Five members, including France and Britain, were absent.
Thus, the US made Russia an ally instead of Europe on the issue of Ukraine.
Pakistan’s alternate representative and ambassador to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, said that Pakistan supported the resolution because peace is a common goal that can only be achieved with collective and comprehensive thinking.
He further said that the reason for supporting the resolution is to respect the principle of self-determination and sovereignty for the people. Pakistan is opposed to the seizure of any territory by threat or force. The principles of the United Nations should be applied without any double standards.
