Textile exports increase by 9.38pc in current fiscal year

Karachi: Textile and apparel exports have increased by 9.38 percent during the first 9 months of the current fiscal year.

According to a news report, data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics states that textile exports saw a huge increase in fiscal year 2025 and textile exports fell to single digits in the last two months, increasing by 13 percent in August, 17.92 percent in September, 13.11 percent in October, 10.81 percent in November, 5.55 percent in December, 15.85 percent in January, and 9.31 percent in February.

Textile and apparel exports during the July-March fiscal year 2025 increased by 9.38 percent to $13.62 billion, compared to $12.44 billion a year ago.

Exports in March increased by 9.97 percent to $1.43 billion from $1.30 billion last year.

Textile companies said that despite the $25 billion potential due to structural issues, textile and apparel exports have been stable for the past 2 years, with exporters demanding early release of various refunds/exemptions pending for several months.

According to the Department of Statistics, during the first 9 months of fiscal year 2025, exports of ready-made garments increased by 19.05 percent in value and 7.84 percent in volume, while woven garments increased by 16.82 percent in value and 9.20 percent in volume, bed-ware increased by 13.70 percent in value, and 12.20 percent in volume.

In fiscal year 2025, towel exports increased by 4.46 percent in value and 4.02 percent in volume, while cotton cloth increased by 0.11 percent in value and decreased by 2 percent in volume.

Yarn exports recorded a decline of 32.01 percent in the nine months of fiscal year 2025. At the same time, exports of manufactured goods excluding towels increased by 9.80 percent, while exports of tents, canvas, and tarpaulins increased by 14.46 percent. During this period, exports of raw cotton decreased by 98.45 percent.

Imports of synthetic fiber increased by 9.10 percent, and imports of rayon yarn increased by 15.23 percent. However, imports of other textile goods increased by 73.62 percent.
