7.5-magnitude earthquake hits Chile’s Antarctic region

(Web Desk): A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck Chile's Antarctic region yesterday.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, after issuing a brief warning for Chile’s coastal areas, later stated that there was no tsunami threat following the 7.5-magnitude earthquake in the Drake Passage between South America and Antarctica on Thursday.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred more than 700 kilometers (435 miles) southeast of Ushuaia, a city in Argentina with a population of approximately 57,000.

Meanwhile, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported a 5.6-magnitude earthquake near the border between Myanmar and India.
