Recent flood has once again pushed us back in agriculture and economy

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Development and Planning Ahsan Iqbal says that the flood caused a loss of Rs500 billion to the Punjab economy.
Addressing a ceremony to distribute relief goods to the victims in Bheenian, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal stated that the initial estimate of losses to Punjab due to the flood was Rs500 billion. As a result of the flood, millions of acres of Punjab’s land were destroyed, while 4.3 percent of the agricultural area and 4.5 million people were affected.
According to Ahsan Iqbal, the recent flood has once again pushed us back in agriculture and the economy, but this time the government will focus on self-reliance instead of external aid or loans, saying goodbye to Kashkol.
Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal added that the 2025 flood has once again shown us that climate change is not a future threat but a present reality. Today’s distribution is not just about providing relief goods; it is a message of solidarity and hope.
Relief Commissioner's statement
On the other hand, the Relief Commissioner of Punjab says that 4,700 villages have been affected by the severe flood situation, and 104 people have died. A meeting of the agricultural departments of all four provinces has been called today.
In addition, an alert has been issued for the eleventh spell of monsoon from tomorrow, under which there is a possibility of rain in the upper areas of Punjab, and there is a risk of flooding in the rivers and canals.
