Rawalpindi: Pakistan on Tuesday said it had blocked an intrusion attempt by an Indian submarine in what is being described as the latest provocative action by Indian forces.
According to a statement released by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan Navy detected the Indian submarine on October 16 that was trying to enter Pakistani waters and successfully thwarted the attempt.
As per ISPR, the Indian naval submarine has been prematurely detected and tracked by the PN Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft.
"During the prevailing security milieu, a strict monitoring watch has been kept by Pakistan Navy to safeguard maritime frontiers of Pakistan," said military’s media wing.
The official statement further added that the recent incident reflects the deplorable Indian machinations vis-à-vis the commitment and resolve of the Pakistan Navy to defend maritime frontiers of the motherland.
This is the third time since 2016 that the Pakistan Navy has detected an Indian submarine trying to enter Pakistani waters.
As per details, Pakistan territorial waters is 12 nautical miles while its seabed territory — the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) — grew to 290,000 square kilometres in 2015.
EEZ signifies an area of coastal water and seabed within a certain distance of a country's coastline that cannot be entered without permission or prior information.
