Imran Khan raises concern over judiciary, governance in Pakistan
He accused the government of deliberately undermining the judiciary
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has voiced serious concerns about the state of the judiciary and the overall governance system in the country.
Speaking informally to the media at Adiala Jail, the former prime minister claimed that the entire system, including the Supreme Court and the economy, is on the verge of collapse. He accused the government of deliberately undermining the judiciary.
"Everyone knows what's happening in the Supreme Court since yesterday," Imran remarked, suggesting a calculated effort by the government to weaken both the Supreme Court and high courts by making judges subservient.
"They’ve already ruined the country and are now focused on destroying the Supreme Court," he asserted.
Imran also took aim at Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, claiming they are acting in unison. He further alleged that the chief election commissioner is avoiding accountability under Article 6 of the Constitution for his alleged role in election fraud, suggesting the matter is being hidden to prevent exposure.
"Their goal is to keep their fraud under wraps and stop PTI from gaining popularity," he said, referring to what he described as global recognition of election fraud on February 8. Imran also raised concerns about the violence on May 9 after his arrest, questioning the absence of CCTV footage. "They set the fire themselves during the May 9 incidents," he alleged.
He further accused the government of suppressing PTI by blocking public meetings and rallies. "It's the chief justice's job to protect fundamental rights," he noted, while criticizing the government’s handling of political rallies. He questioned whether summer rallies ever concluded at 6pm, highlighting restrictions on PTI's activities.
Imran emphasized the judiciary’s role in safeguarding fundamental rights and expressed concerns about its independence. "What’s clear from yesterday is that the Chief Justice and the Chief Election Commissioner are working together," he claimed.
He concluded by reiterating that the government’s main aim is to conceal electoral fraud and prevent PTI’s rise. He also criticized the government’s economic policies, saying they are pushing the country towards collapse, and maintained that the nation is fully aware of the issues plaguing the judicial system.
