New York City: A 20-year-old woman has been shot dead while she was pushing her three-month-old baby in a stroller near Manhattan's Upper East Side, the police said.
According to officials, the tragic incident occurred shortly after 8:20 pm at Lexington Avenue and 95th Street. The victim was taken to Metropolitan hospital Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.
However, her 3-month-old kid was safe and sound.
The suspect is still at large and an investigation is underway.
In a news conference, New York City Police Commissioner said that the lady was pushing the stroller when a man—all dressed in black— came from behind and "fired a single shot into her head from a very close range", fleeing the scene.
In the meantime, the New York’s mayor, Eric Adams, appealed for help in finding the shooter.
“We are going to find the person who is guilty of this horrific crime. We are going to find him and bring him to justice,” Adams added.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) turning to Twitter stated that the residents should avoid the area due to ongoing investigation.
It is pertinent to mention here that the shooting marks the latest in a string of attacks, some of them seemingly random, on the streets and subways of New York that have left residents on edge.
