SNGPL, SSGCP seek up to 220pc hike in prices

Islamabad: Pakistan’s two gas utilities Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) on Monday have demanded up to 220 per cent increase in gas prices to meet estimated revenue requirement (ERR) during the fiscal year 2021-22.

As per details, the gas firms have submitted their petitions with Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), seeking increase in gas tariff from July 01, 2021.

The SSGC has asked for an increase in tariff by Rs.109.78 and SNGPL seeking Rs. 857.40 increase.

Likewise, the Karachi-based SSGCL has sought Rs. 153 per unit or 20 percent increase in its previous price for the next financial year, from about Rs. 779 per unit to about Rs. 932.

The SNPGL supplies gas to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and it’s the existing prescribed price approved by Ogra stands at about Rs. 645 per mmbtu.

Interestingly, the exclusive rights of SNGPL over its franchise areas of Punjab and KP have expired.
