Karachi: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to field Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, daughter of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, in the upcoming general elections, on Sunday.
PPP leader Aseefa Bhutto will contest in the next general elections, according to reports, as the party's research tank has begun looking into several Sindh seats.
PPP co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari will make a final decision about the constituency, from which Aseefa will contest the polls.
Furthermore, she will conduct her campaign and deliver speeches at rallies in several districts.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he will hand over the power to a caretaker government in August, ending speculation that his administration was seeking to extend its term and moving a step closer to national elections.
“We will hand over the responsibility to the caretaker government in August 2023,” he said in a televised speech to nation on Thursday.
Shehbaz took over in April 2022 after leading a coalition of parties that removed Imran Khan from power through a parliamentary vote of no-confidence. His term ends in mid-August.
