Weekly inflation up, yearly touches 17.05 per cent

Inflation during the week ended on April 16, 2021, went up by 0.50 per cent. Throughout the week, During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 18 (35.3%) items increased, 07 (13.7%) items decreased and 26 (51.0%) items remained constant.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, The SPI for the current week ended on 06th May 2021 recorded an increase in the prices of Chicken (10.36%), Bananas (8.21%), Wheat Flour (2.89%), Mustard Oil (1.49%) and Beef (1.15%) with the joint impact of (0.74%) into the overall SPI for the combined group of (0.50%).

On the other hand decrease in the prices of Eggs (6.29%), LPG (5.39%), Onions (4.61%), Potatoes (1.30%), Pulse Gram (0.39%), Pulse Masoor (0.32%) and Garlic (0.17%).

The year on year trend depicts an increase of 17.05% with most of the items increased mainly Chilies Powder (137.09%), Electricity for Q1 (67.03%), Chicken (49.16%), Eggs (48.15%), Diesel (38.03%), Mustard Oil (33.46%), Gents Sandal (33.37%) and Petrol (32.96%), while a major decrease was observed in the prices of Onions (37.61%), Garlic (35.95%), Pulse Moong (19.56%), Potatoes (17.96%), Pulse Masoor (8.78%), LPG (7.54%) and Pulse Gram (4.54%).

Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) is computed on a weekly basis to assess the price movements of essential commodities at a shorter interval of time to review the price situation in the country. SPI comprises 51 essential items and the prices are being collected from 50 markets in 17 cities of the country.
