Journalist Khalid Jamil released from Adiala Jail
Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand presided over the hearing for Jamil's bail request.
Islamabad: Journalist Khalid Jamil has been released from Rawalpindi Adiala Jail after the local court granted him bail on Thursday.
Earlier today, a local court in Islamabad granted post-arrest bail to journalist Khalid Jamil in a case pertaining to spreading a “provocative narrative against the state institutions through social media platforms”.
Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand presided over the hearing for Jamil's bail request.
The prison officials freed the journalist after obtaining the mandamus [robkar].
The journalist was granted post-arrest release by Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand in exchange for a Rs. 50,000 surety bond.
Khalid Jamil was imprisoned in court detention for 14 days in the case on Sunday. The journalist had protested his detention.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused was found “sharing and spreading highly intimidating content/tweets on social media platforms, including X”.
The FIR invoked Section 505 (statement conducing to public mischief) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). It also included Section 20 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca).
The journalist was deemed to have "harmed Pakistan," according to the FIR.
