Lahore administration refuses PTI’s plea for power show at Liberty
The deputy commissioner cites concerns regarding past events in its response to the Lahore High Court.
Lahore: The Deputy Commissioner's office in Lahore has rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) request to hold a public rally at Lahore's iconic Liberty Chowk. This decision comes following the submission of PTI's petition to the Lahore High Court, seeking permission for the planned rally at Liberty Chowk.
The DC office cited concerns regarding past events in its response to the Lahore High Court. During a meeting on October 10, officials from all relevant departments noted that PTI workers and leaders had been involved in acts of vandalism during a protest held on May 9. Consequently, the District Intelligence Committee refused to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for PTI's rally at Liberty.
The Lahore High Court, under the stewardship of Justice Raheel Kamran, conducted a hearing on PTI's plea, inquiring about the reasons behind the delay in granting permission by the Punjab government.
In the event of refusal, the court directed the Deputy Commissioner to provide detailed reasons for denying PTI the opportunity to hold their rally at Liberty Chowk.
This development comes after the Additional Secretary-General of PTI Central Punjab had approached the Lahore High Court, seeking permission to hold the party's rally at Liberty Chowk on October 15. The decision by the Deputy Commissioner's office to refuse the request sets the stage for further legal proceedings and discussions on the matter.
