The spokesman told that more than 40.35 million units have been charged to the electricity thieves so far that worth over Rs1.88 billion.


Lahore: Following the instructions of Ministry of Energy, Lahore Electricity Supply Company (LESCO) Chief Executive Engineer Shahid Haider supervised the operation against electricity thieves that has accelerated in all the five districts Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Nankana and Okara.
According to spokesperson LESCO, 224 people involved in electricity theft were caught within 24 hours, out of which complaints were filed against 222 to register the case and 128 of them have been booked while 21 have been arrested.
The authorities also seized multiple electricity connections including nine commercial, seven agricultural, one industrial and 207 domestic. The accused have been charged 2,91,301 units worth Rs2.51 million in the form of detection bill.
According to the spokesman, during the operation against electricity thieves, large commercial consumers were also found involved in electricity theft, their connections were also disconnected and were charged with detection units.
The accused involved in the crime in different areas include 9888 detection units worth Rs2,52,421 in Khudian, 5245 units worth Rs2,00,000 in Harbanspura, 10120 units worth Rs2,00,000 to the electricity thief in Nathuki and 3452 units worth Rs1,50,000 to the connection in Manawan.
According to the spokesman, a total of 22,244 connections were found involved in electricity theft in LESCO region during the 53-day operation. FIR applications were submitted against 22,016 connections, out of which 21,210 applications have been registered.
