According to Patron General of All Pakistan Fruit Vegetable Exporters Importers and Merchants Association Waheed Ahmed, the mango export target is set at $127.5 million.

He said that the export target of mango was 80,000 metric tonnes last year, but the global demand for mango remained high last season from which 140,000 metric tonnes of mango was exported for $120 million.

Waheed Ahmed pointed out that the Rs100 billion mango industry is facing difficulties due to climate change, water scarcity, extra fares, limited flights and closure of major global shopping malls.

Due to climate change, mango production is expected to fall by 15 per cent this season.

Waheed Ahmed told that Japan, the United States, Australia, South Korea and China are the best-selling markets for mangoes.

While giving suggestions to the government, he said that the fruit’s demand is growing in Russia and China, the regime should work on the promotion of mangoes in these countries, and adopt a strategy of easy access to high-value markets by researching and developing mangoes.
