Man faces imprisonment over second marriage without first wife’s consent
According to the court decision, the accused violated Section-VI of the Muslim Family Law Ordinance.
Lahore: The Family Court of Lahore sentenced a man for seven months in jail for marrying second time without the consent of his first wife.
Judge Adnan Liaquat of the Family Court Lahore gave a verdict on the petition in which the court sentenced a person who marries a second wife without the permission of his first wife to seven months imprisonment and a fine of Rs500,000.
The court said that the husband married the second wife without the permission of the first wife, it is legally necessary to take written permission for the second marriage, but the husband did not take permission from the first wife before the second marriage.
According to the court decision, the accused violated Section-VI of the Muslim Family Law Ordinance, so the accused is sentenced to seven months imprisonment for remarrying without permission. If the accused fails to pay the fine of Rs500,000, he will be imprisoned for one more month.
