Ziauddin Yousafzai clarifies Malala’s statement over marriage
London: Pakistani Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai comments over marriage have sparked a controversy with many criticizing her over her views on the institution of marriage.
According to details, the 23-year old while giving an interview to Vogue earlier this week said that she wasn’t sure if she would ever marry anyone.
“I still don’t understand why people have to get married. If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?”
The statement went viral on social media with people calling it an irresponsible statement. Many also accused her of having a western narrative pertaining to marriage.
Meanwhile, cleric Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai demanded an explanation from Malala’s father on Twitter saying people are extremely disturbed by Malala’s statement that invalidated the concept of marriage and supported the idea of two people living together without getting married.
In response, Malala’s father Ziauddin Yousafzai said the statement was taken out of context.
“Media and social media twisted it and her statement was taken out of context, that’s it,” he said.
