Sunak announces general elections in UK on July 4

London: After hours of speculation, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has officially announced that a general election will be held in a few weeks.

In a statement earlier today, Sunak confirmed that he had requested King Charles to dissolve Parliament on May 30, a request which was granted. This sets the stage for a general election to take place on Thursday, July 4.

Speaking in Downing Street amid the rain, Sunak expressed pride in his government's accomplishments and outlined his intention to fight for "every vote." Acknowledging the uncertain times ahead, he emphasized that his government has a clear plan to navigate these challenges.

Sunak also criticized Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, accusing him of lacking a coherent plan. He remarked, "I don't know what they offer - and in truth, I don't think you do either."

This announcement marks the beginning of a highly anticipated election campaign, with both parties gearing up for a contentious battle in the coming weeks.
