Gas was extracted from LPG buzzers with carbon dioxide mixed in it
Lahore: It has been revealed that millions of lives are at risk due to the sale of adulterated Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) across the country.
Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has launched a grand operation against those selling adulterated LPG in substandard cylinders after receiving complaints. OGRA's special teams have cracked down in Punjab and Sindh and seized dozens of companies and adulterated chemicals.
On the complaints of LPG Distributors Association Chairman Irfan Khokhar, Chairman OGRA formed special teams. Gas was being extracted from LPG buzzers and carbon dioxide was being mixed in it.
OGRA seized the mixing plant and containers filled with carbon dioxide. Complaints of cylinder explosion due to carbon dioxide mixing in LPG were reported.
The pressure increases from 900 to 1200 due to the mixing of carbon dioxide, while the pressure of LPG cylinders is up to 540, which is why cylinders are exploding across the country, including Lahore.
LPG is 235,000 tons while carbon dioxide is 25,000 tons. Millions of rupees are being earned daily by mixing carbon dioxide worth 15 kg with gas sold for Rs300.
OGRA has sent the adulterated boozers and samples taken from the plant to the laboratory. OGRA also imposed fines of Rs500,000 on the first five LPG companies. It will also impose heavy fines on the companies whose samples were sent to the laboratory.
In the markets where adulterated LPG has been sold, OGRA has started taking steps with distributors to withdraw the adulterated LPG.
