‘Access to water is a human right, and any political manipulation over this resource is unacceptable’

(Web Desk): The issue of the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty has reached the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Pakistan brought up the matter during the ongoing session of the OIC’s Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) in Jeddah.
Pakistan has taken this critical issue to the international level, raising it on the platform of the OIC.
During discussions on the right to water at the 25th session of the OIC’s IPHRC, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Syed Fawad Sher, voiced strong concerns over India’s unilateral actions.
He stated that Pakistan is already facing a severe water shortage, and India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty not only violates the agreement but also worsens climate-related challenges in the region.
He emphasized that access to water is a human right, and any political manipulation over this resource is unacceptable.
Foreign Ministers from OIC member states attending the session also expressed concern over India’s actions and voiced support for Pakistan’s stance. Participating delegates stressed the importance of equitable water distribution and the need to protect this fundamental right.
