Up to 6 months jail, Rs200,000 fine proposed for forcing women out of homes

(Web Desk): An amendment bill has been introduced in the National Assembly to make it a punishable offense to unjustly evict women from their homes.

During Tuesday’s session of the National Assembly, PPP Member of Parliament Sharmila Faruqi presented the bill, which proposes amendments to various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the proposed amendment, it would be declared a criminal offense for a husband or any family member to unjustly expel a woman from the home. The suggested punishment for such an act includes imprisonment ranging from 3 to 6 months.

The amendment also states that offenders could be fined up to 200,000 rupees. Cases related to such offenses would be heard by a magistrate of the first class.

The proposed legislation has been titled the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Deputy Speaker has referred the bill to the relevant committee for further consideration.
