Beijing: Former Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang has died of cardiac arrest (heart attack).
According to Chinese media, 68-year-old Li Chiang resigned from the post of Prime Minister in March this year.
According to foreign media, he was resting in the city of Shanghai when he suddenly suffered a heart attack that led to his death.
Li was once expected to be future leader of China however he got toppled by President Xi Jinping. He was the only incumbent top official who didn't belong to Xi's loyalists group.
“Li was viewed as a pragmatic leader and encouraged economic reform... unfortunately his voice was effectively silenced and then ousted and replaced by a loyalist to Xi last year,” James M Zimmerman, a Beijing-based political commentator said in a post on X.
