Washington DC: United Nations reaction on the conviction of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi by the special court in the cypher case has also come to light.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated that he is looking into the cases against the former prime minister and will not comment on the court's sentence.

In his press briefing, Matthew Miller added: “The trial against Imran Khan is a legal matter, refer to Pakistani courts for legal matters. Internal Affairs of Pakistan take no position on candidates for office”.

He stated that he wants to see a free, fair and open democratic process. We want a democratic process in which all parties have wide participation and respect for democratic principles.

It is pertinent to note that the special court of the cypher case has sentenced PTI founder Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi to 10 years in prison.
