Parween Rahman was the director of the Orangi Pilot Project, which is a development NGO based in coastal city.
She has been given numerous accolades for her achievements, notably the Sitara-e-Shujaat (Order of Bravery award), and her efforts have played an instrumental role in defining how Pakistan settlements are developed today.
On March 13, 2013, Perween was shot dead by four gummen on her way home from work and joint interrogation teams (JITs) that probed her murder found roles of militant and political groups behind her murder.
She was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Her death was mourned across Pakistan.

Moreover, in 2021, a short film titled Into Dust based on Peween’s life was released on Amazon Prime—directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Orlando Von Einsiedel.
