UN condemns bloody mosque attack in Peshawar

UN (United Nations) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the blast inside a mosque in Peshawar. 

On his official twitter, he said Houses of worship should be havens, not targets.

He condoled to those who have lost loved ones, and expressed his solidarity with the people of Pakistan.

I commend the national and local organizations in Ukraine providing aid, and the humanitarian and health workers caring for those injured in the fighting.

The international community must give them our unequivocal support.

The latest attack stoked fears of terrorism returning to Peshawar, capital of the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, which after being a longtime hotbed of terrorism has been peaceful over the past several years.

In the attack, a suicide bomber shot the police guards at the entrance to a packed mosque at Peshawar's historic Kissa Khuwani Bazaar before detonating his explosives-laden vest in the middle of worshippers who were offering Friday prayers. 

At least 56 people were martyred by the blast while another nearly 200 still being treated for moderate to severe injuries.
