Death toll from devastating floods reaches 1,481: NDMA
At least 54 more people died and 6 sustained injuries due to monsoon rains and floods on Tuesday
Islamabad: The death toll from torrential monsoon rains and floods since the onset of the rainy season across the country has reached 1,481, while more than 12,000 injured since June, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.
According to the NDMA, as a result of the monsoon rains and floods continuing since June 14, at least 1,481 people have died and 12,748 have been injured. Over the past 24 hours, 54 more people were killed and 6 sustained injuries.
In Sindh, the number of injured reached 8,321 while 3,858 in Punjab, 368 in KP while 172 people were injured in Balochistan.
The report stated that 1,185,481 houses were partially destroyed due to floods while 569,800 were destroyed completely due to recent rains and floods. It said 12,418 kilometres of roads were damaged in Sindh, 1,000 kilometres in Balochistan, and 1589 kilometres in KP due to recent rains and floods. A total of 243 bridges across the country were damaged, the authority maintained.
In the last 24 hours, 500 kilometres of roads were damaged in Balochistan, reports said, adding that 5563 km of roads across the country have been affected by the recent rains and floods.
The NDMA also noted that as a result of floods some 1.7 million homes have been completely or partially destroyed, over 900,000 livestock killed and 390 bridges damaged.
