Six killed in 'horrendous' Canada shooting
Six dead, including suspect, after shooting at Vaughan condo building
Vaughan: In a tragic incident, at least six people have been shot and killed at a condominium unit in a Toronto suburb—including a male suspect who died in police encounter—while another is in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting in Canada’s Vaughan, authorities said late Sunday.
As per local media reports, the incident unfolded at around 7:20 pm and police officers responded to an active shooting call at the building in Vaughan.
York Regional Police Chief Jim MacSween, in a news conference, said: “The officers found a horrendous scene where numerous victims were deceased”.
The victims have not yet been identified.
Details on the motive were not immediately provided.
MacSween added that an injured person who was shot was taken to a hospital and expected to survive.
Police evacuated the building but MacSween said there is no further threat to the community. An emergency response unit is working to clear the building so the displaced residents can return to their units within hours.
It is pertinent to mention here that mass shootings are rare in Canada and Toronto and have long prided themselves as one of the world’s safest big cities.
