Heavy rain breaks 30-year record in Lahore
Due to the rain water accumulated in the low lying areas of the city, more than 100 mm of rain was recorded in different areas.
Lahore: The 30-year record of rain in Lahore was broken when 291 mm of rain was recorded in 10 hours.
More than 200 mm of rain was recorded in more than a 12 areas of the city. Administration, all officers and staff of Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) were mobilized for drainage.
Commissioner Muhammad Ali says that earlier on 26 June 2022, 256 mm of rain was recorded. While in 2018, 288 mm of rain was recorded in Lahore.
Managing Director of WASA Ghufran Ahmed said that the system is making water drainage possible at its full capacity, adding that “Low-lying areas will be cleared within a few hours after the rain stops”.
Monsoon rains are continuing intermittently in Lahore. The torrential downpour in various parts of the city has left the city in shambles. The highest rainfall was recorded in Nishtar Town at 188 mm.
Some heavy and some light rains fell in different areas. Due to the rain water accumulated in the low lying areas of the city, more than 100 mm of rain was recorded in different areas.
The highest rainfall was 234 mm in Lakshmi Chowk, 220 mm in Nishtar Town, 203 mm in Tajpura, 100 mm in Gulshan Ravi, 94 mm in Qurtaba Chowk and 90 mm in Johar Town.
According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the rain is likely to continue for the next five days.
Nankana Sahib broke the heat due to rain. The weather became pleasant in Warburton, Mandi Faizabad, Bachiki and Syedwala.
The meteorological department says that the rain in Mandi Bahauddin is likely to continue for the next two days. Electricity supply has been suspended in different areas of city. Low-lying areas were flooded due to rain.
Rain continues in Shakargarh, Noorkot, Kartarpur and surrounding areas. The Met department added that the rain is likely to continue for the next two to three days in these cities also.
On the other hand, due to rain in Gujarat, the temperature has dropped. Gujranwala Electric Power Compnay (GEPCO) failed to restore power, shutting down several feeders, causing the power supply to be suspended.
The meteorological department continued to say that there is a risk of severe flooding in the river channels of Muzaffarabad. Rains are likely to continue till July 8.
