Washington: Democrat Senator Chris Van Hollen has denied that the Biden administration is interfering in Pakistan’s politics on Sunday.
He was speaking with the media after attending a Pakistan Doctors Organization DMV Chapter event on Saturday night.
Senator Van Hollen stated that the Biden administration has been in contact with him for a considerable amount of time and is not involved in Pakistani politics.
He said that no attempt had been made to influence in Pakistan's internal affairs.
“Pakistan's citizens are responsible for choosing their government”, he added.
The US senator stated, "We need make sure that the will of the Pakistani people is carried out”.
Furthermore, the Elections in Pakistan must be free and fair, he emphasized. According to Senator Van Hollen, free and fair elections [in Pakistan] are desired by the United States, the international community, and the Pakistani people.
The Biden administration, he claimed, desired a close, bilateral relationship with Pakistan because it was crucial to global security and stability.
Speaking of the US support for Pakistan, he said that the US poured in aid to assist Pakistan's reconstruction following last year's disastrous floods.
The senator concluded that the US was crucial in mobilizing funds for flood victims' rehabilitation and in convincing the IMF to announce immediate economic support.
