Mumbai: As second wave of Covid-19 intensifies in India, over 50,000 deaths have been recorded over the past fortnight in country, taking the total Covid death figures to 250,000.

With 4,205 deaths, India saw the highest Covid toll so far, surpassing the previous highest of 4,187 on Friday.

The second pandemic round is nearing its peak in India, the daily case count was below 350,000 for the second day running at 348,371 new infections.

According to officials, the overall trend was improving with new cases declining from 414,188 on May 6.

Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Odisha, Punjab, Assam and 18 more states have seen a continued to report surge in Covid-19 cases and deaths.

Thirteen Indian states now have more than 100,000 active cases each, while six states have between 50,000 and 100,000.

 Meanwhile, 17 Indian states have fewer than 50,000 active cases.

India is facing a massive upsurge in Covid-19 cases and the national positivity rate is around 20-21%.

About 42% districts in the country are reporting a positivity rate more than the national average.

For the time being, India has 3.7 million active cases.

Indian state Maharashtra continued to top the list with 593,150 active cases.

Karnataka have reported 571,026 cases, in Kerala 420,076 people got infected by novel coronavirus. While Uttar Pradesh has 225,271 active cases followed by Rajasthan with 203,017 infected people.
