Punjab CM shuts down schools, markets amid smog
The traders endorsed the suggestion presented by Commissioner Lahore and CCPO.
Lahore: Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, has issued a significant directive. Commissioner Lahore, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, recently convened a meeting with a delegation of local traders, where it was decided to temporarily shutter markets on Wednesday.
Additionally, institutions, including schools, government offices, and private organizations, are slated to close temporarily.
Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa emphasized the need for work-from-home arrangements to mitigate the effects of the smog.
In a collaborative effort to address this environmental challenge, local traders have shown their support by accepting the proposal put forth by Commissioner Lahore and CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamiana.
CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamiana highlighted that the smog index is expected to be particularly high on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
He also mentioned that traders have the flexibility to open and close their businesses as they see fit during this period.
The Commissioner of Lahore Division pointed out that the months of October and November are crucial in terms of smog, warranting these precautionary measures.
As part of the plan, schools will also suspend their activities on Wednesday, with school administration staff adopting a work-from-home approach.
Banks, private institutions, markets, clubs, and hotels are among the establishments set to temporarily cease operations.
