Peshawar: The Higher Education Department in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has made a significant decision to discontinue the two-year associate degree program in all government colleges.

This decision entails the introduction of four-year BS (Bachelor of Science) programs in place of the existing associate degree courses.

With the phasing out of the two-year associate degree program, all government colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been instructed to cease admissions for associate degree courses.

Instead, they will offer admissions exclusively for BS programs in the upcoming academic year.

The transition to BS programs will also encompass general and commerce colleges in the region.

The move to introduce the associate degree program in conjunction with BS degrees was initiated a few years ago.

However, the implementation was faced with several challenges, including a shortage of faculty, inadequate infrastructure, and the absence of required laboratories in these colleges.

Consequently, the introduction of the associate degree program was deferred multiple times.

In line with this development, the Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has released an official directive.

The Higher Education Department has instructed colleges to initiate admissions for BS classes in the forthcoming academic year.

It is important to note that students already enrolled in associate degree programs will continue their studies until they complete their degrees.

Additionally, the principals of colleges offering associate degree programs are required to obtain approval from their respective directorates to commence BS programs from the current academic session.
