Old-time musician Ustad Bundu Khan’s death anniversary
Till he passed away in 1955, Bundu Khan used to play sarangi in all radio stations of Pakistan.


Karachi: The day (Saturday) marks the 69th death anniversary of legendary Pakistani musician and sarangi expert, Ustad Bundu Khan.
Bundu Khan was born into a family of musicians in Delhi in 1880. He began his sarangi journey at the tender age of eight.
His artistry in sarangi later graced the airwaves of All India Radio when it began broadcasting in 1935.
Bundu Khan’s mastery extended over more than 500 ragas, showing the depth of his musical list.
The musician earned acclaim not only as an expert sarangi player but also as a musical theorist, authoring a book on music published concurrently in both Urdu and Hindi languages.
Following the partition, Ustad Bundu relocated to Karachi and became an integral part of Radio Pakistan. He passed away on January 13,1955 and his musical journey concluded.
Till he passed away in 1955, Bundu Khan used to play sarangi in all radio stations of Pakistan.
Subsequently in 1985, the government of Pakistan honored Bundu Khan with the Pride of Performance award, recognizing his enduring impact on the world of music.
