Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms and Special Initiatives and National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) head Asad Umar has said that the coronavirus vaccination process has been intensified in Pakistan.

While talking to the media in Islamabad the NCOC head said that the COVID situation has forced the government to make tough decisions in past but as a result, positive cases in the country are steadily declining.

He told media that the coronavirus spread rate in the country has come down from 10% to 4%.

“Vaccination is the only way to end sanctions and decrease the blowout of COVID-19,”

He said that as compared to the neighbouring countries, Pakistan suffered less loss from the disease.

While giving details about the vaccination process, the minister told that 20 million COVID shots will be available in Pakistan by June and July and so far more than 7 million jabs have been administered in the state.

The planning minister requested citizens to get vaccinated as the highest number of 300,000 vaccines was administered yesterday, he told.

Asad Umer stated that the government has set the target to inoculate 70 million people in the country as the free vaccine is available to people above 18 years of age.

“The centre is in touch with the provincial governments regarding the vaccination process as for the first time in the country, 383,000 people were vaccinated in a record-setting task, ”

He clarified while saying that “The federal government has taken the responsibility for purchasing vaccines,”

Praising the media he said “media has played an effective role in the campaign against COVID-19 as the government wants to intensify the vaccination process before Eid-ul-Adha so that no sanctions are imposed.

The planning minister expressed that coronavirus is more prevalent in Sindh and caution must be exercised.
