Ghotki train accident: Railways minister announces Rs1.5million compensation for families of victims
Lahore: Federal Minister for Railways Azam Swati has announced financial compensation for the families of victims of Ghotki train accident.
While addressing a presser, Azam Swati said that the heirs of the deceased will be provided compensation of Rs1.5million, while the injured will be given between Rs50, 000 to 300,000 as per the nature of their injuries.
He confirmed that that 63 people were killed while 107 sustained injuries in the train accident.
“Around 20 people are still undergoing treatment at different hospitals out of which three are in critical condition. As soon as I got to know about the accident, I reached the site and personally monitored the rescue and relief operation,” he said.
The railways minister confirmed that initial inquiry report into the incident has been received and will be sent to the Prime Minister Imran Khan.
At least 62 people were killed and nearly 100 others injured after two passenger trains collided near Daharki on Monday, a city located in the Ghotki district of upper Sindh.
The accident happened at 3:30 near Ghotki district when the Millat Express coming from Karachi derailed and fall on another track. The Sir Syed Express coming from Rawalpindi collided with it and overturned causing the accident.
