Pakistan: COVID-19 death toll nears 29,000 with two new fatalities

Islamabad: Around 301 fresh coronavirus cases emerged while two people succumbed to the disease in last 24 hours amid 'Omicron' threat.  

Following the alarming situation, Pakistan’s government will step up COVID-19 vaccination efforts and is expanding the criteria for vaccine booster shots.

According to the latest figures issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 301 persons were tested positive while 2 died in the past 24 hours— taking Pakistan's COVID death toll to 28,909. 

The total number of cases has reached 1,293,715.  

As many as 1,254,975 patients have recovered from the disease. 

Punjab

The number of patients swelled to 444,610 in the province with 13,064 causalities.

Sindh

The number of infections has surged to 480,710 in the province, while the death toll has reached 7,662.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 

The confirmed cases have surged to 181,235 in the province with 5,922 casualties.

Balochistan

There are 33,624 confirmed cases while 363 patients have died from the infection so far.

AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan

There are 34,657 coronavirus cases in the AJK while the death toll has reached 746. On the other hand, there are 10,429 cases in GB with 186 coronavirus deaths.

Islamabad

There are 108,450 cases in the capital city while 966 people have lost their lives.
