For the first time in the country's history, there has been an upward trend in female voter registration.


Islamabad: Pakistan has become the world's fifth largest democracy after a substantial increase in the number of registered voters.
According to the report released by Free and Fair Election Network (FAFN), Pakistan has become the fifth largest democracy in the world after India, Indonesia, USA and Brazil due to the substantial increase in the number of registered voters.
128 million registered voters
According to the FAFN’s report, a record 128 million voters are registered in Pakistan for the general elections to be held on February 8.
For the first time in the country's history, there has been an upward trend in female voter registration, with the gender gap in the electorate from 11.8 percent in 2018 to 7.7 percent.
The report suggested that after 2018, the registration of women voters has increased than men. Among the newly registered 22.5 million voters, 12.5 million are women and 10 million are men.
In 2018, the gender gap was more than 10% in 85 districts. The number of districts has been reduced from 85 to 24.
The report stated that the number of National Assembly constituencies in which the gender gap was more than 10 percent has decreased from 173 to 38, including 12 National Assembly constituencies from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11 from Balochistan, 10 from Sindh and five from Punjab.
The number of provincial assembly constituencies in which the gender gap was more than 10 percent has now decreased from 398 to 102, including 31 constituencies of Sindh, 30 of Balochistan, 24 of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 17 of Punjab, added the report.
