Pakistan, India exchange lists of nuclear installations, facilities
The practice of exchanging the lists had been continuing since 1st January 1992.
Islamabad: Pakistan and India Sunday exchanged the lists of nuclear installations and facilities under the Agreement on Prohibition of Attacks against Nuclear Installations and Facilities.
In this regard, the foreign officer said, “The Agreement on Prohibition of Attacks against Nuclear Installations and Facilities between Pakistan and India was signed on 31st December 1988 and ratified on 27th January 1991”.
The Agreement, inter alia, provides that both countries shall inform each other of their nuclear installations and facilities, falling within its definition, on 1st January of each calendar year.
Pursuant to the Agreement, the list of nuclear installations and facilities in Pakistan was officially handed over to a representative of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Simultaneously, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs also handed over the list of India's nuclear installations and facilities to a representative of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
The practice of exchanging the lists had been continuing since 1st January 1992.
Meanwhile, both countries also shared the list of prisoners that had been in each other’s custody under the Consular Access Agreement of 2008. The list is shared after every six months i.e. January 1 and July 1.
The government of Pakistan shared a list of 705 Indian prisoners held in Pakistan, including 654 fishermen and 51 civilians.
Whereas, the government of India shared a list of 434 Pakistanis detained in India, including 339 civilian and 95 fishermen.
Pakistan also requested the return of 51 civilian and 94 fishermen prisoners who had completed their sentences.
