Mansoor Usman Awan appointed as new AGP
The Ministry of law has issued notification for the appointment of Mansoor Usman Awan two days after Barrister Shehzad Elahi stepped down from the post.
Islamabad: The Federal government on Monday appointed Mansoor Usman Awan as Attorney General for Pakistan.
“In exercise of powers conferred under Article 100 (1) of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973, the president is pleased to appoint Mr. Mansoor Usman Awan as attorney general for Pakistan with the rank and status of federal minister with immediate effect,” read the notification issued by the Federal Law Ministry on Monday.
The development took place after Barrister Shehzad Elahi stepped down from the office of the principal law officer of the country.
The reports said that Elahi did not resign rather he was asked to leave the office.
Earlier, the federal government had appointed him as the AGP on recommendation of one section of the superior judiciary.
Elahi, who enjoyed a good reputation in the legal fraternity became a victim of the ongoing clash between the judiciary and the executive. Abo
Elahi had a good reputation for his hard work, integrity, and understanding of legal issues. He was also a young corporate lawyer with experience in commercial, tax and banking laws, civil, commercial, corporate, constitutional litigation etc.
Elahi belonged to the famous law firm, Cornelius, Lane and Mufti.
