SC accepts Justice Isa's review petitions
Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has accepted review petition of Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Serena Isa challenging the court's judgment on the presidential reference against him.
According to details, a 10-member bench, headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the case of Justice Isa in the top court on Monday.
Justice Qazi Faez Isa and his wife Serena Isa had challenged the apex court’s order on the presidential reference seeking the removal of apex court judge for failing to disclose foreign properties of his family members.
Supreme Court accepted Justice Isa's review petition and that of his wife by a majority of 6-4.
On April 13, the apex court had dismissed the petition of Justice Isa seeking live telecast of the proceedings on his review petition against the verdict in presidential reference case.
Justice Isa was the subject of a presidential reference that accused him of acquiring three properties in London in the name of his wife and children between but did not disclose them in his wealth returns. Justice Isa had refuted the allegation, saying he was neither direct nor indirect beneficiary of those flats.
In June 2020, the apex threw out the reference, calling it "invalid" but seven out of ten judges dirceted the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Inland Revenue Department to seek details of the nature and source of funding for three properties from Justice Isa’s family and submit the report to SC.
Following that, Justice Isa and his wife filed review petitions in Supreme Court and on February 24, a 10-judge bench was formed to hear the set of review petitions.
