National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) in a report submitted to Parliament stated that about 45 million citizens of Pakistan are not registered in NADRA’s database.

A recent report submitted to the lower house of the parliament disclosed that almost 45 million people are unregistered in NADRA’s database which means they have no official document to prove their citizenship.
The document presented to the National Assembly pointed out that there are total 177 million citizens registered in the Authority’s database however according to the population census conducted in 2017, the population of the country touched 221 million leaving a gap of 45 million people.
According to the reports, the possible reason for the gap could be the gender gap.
World Bank report stated that the population of women in Pakistan is 48.5% and while men make 48.7% of the total population.
However, there is a big gender gap between the unregistered people in the central database as more men are registered in the database than women.
The authorities have made efforts in the past to emit the gender gap by facilitating women in getting equal right to vote, education, health, employment and other facilities. However much needs to be done in regards to these 45 million unregistered people.
