Islamabad: Defence Minister and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif reacted to Finance Minister Ishaq Dar's nomination as the interim prime minister of Pakistan.

In a press conference, Khawaja stated: "Ishaq Dar is my brother and a close friend. Dar and I have a mutual relationship, but it is very much mine. We both faced imprisonment during Pervez Musharraf's era. I also wish for Dar to have the opportunity to serve as prime minister.

"However, I am aware that Ishaq Dar's position as interim prime minister is being questioned. If the caretaker prime minister comes from the ruling party, the populace will object, Khawaja continued.

Khawaja stated, "There is absolutely no doubt that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif will return to the country" in reference to Sharif's comeback as PML-N leader.

Earlier today, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) made it prominent that the interim prime minister's name had not yet been decided.

Sherry Rehman, a prominent PPP figure, and Faisal Karim Kundi stated during a news conference that "no decision has yet been taken about the appointment of the caretaker prime minister. How can the PPP not be consulted before choosing the interim prime minister's name?

Everyone wants to see equal opportunities during the general elections. Inflation is currently a crippling problem for the general public. Everyone is aware of the economic challenges the country is experiencing, she added.

Kundi stated in the meantime that "No meeting has been held in Dubai." He stated that the PPP's lone demand was that elections be conducted in conformity with the law and the constitution.

"PPP election preparations are finished. The country needs to hold elections quickly, Kundi continued.
