ECP implores evidence against allegations of election rigging
The Election Commission reserved its decision on the petition regarding the results of NA-55 Rawalpindi.
Islamabad: Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja Thursday said that those making allegations of rigging in the general elections 2024 should present evidence.
According to the details, Chief Election Commissioner and Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ikramullah Khan heard the application regarding the results of NA-55 Rawalpindi for which the successful candidate of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Malik Abrar Ahmed's lawyer appeared before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The lawyer of the successful candidate said that the Returning Officer (RO) has issued the final result of NA-55, the ECP should dismiss the petition as inadmissible, the matter may be referred to the Election Tribunal for further investigation.
The lawyer of petitioner Muhammad Basharat Raja—who is an independent candidate— stated that according to media reports, Basharat Raja was winning from NA-55.
The Chief Election Commissioner replied: ‘The Election Commission will not make decisions following the media reports. People alleging rigging and alteration of results should also present the evidence’.
Lawyer of Basharat Raja stated that the evidence is with the Election Commission, open Form-45 and sift the true from the false.
Later, the Election Commission reserved its decision on the petition regarding the results of NA-55 Rawalpindi.
