Minister for Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora and minority member Shakeela Javed jointly presents resolutions, which receives unanimous approval from the assembly members
Lahore: The Punjab Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution to honor the contributions of minorities in the province. The resolution was presented during a special session convened to mark National Minorities Day.
Minister for Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora and minority member Shakeela Javed jointly presented the resolutions, which received unanimous approval from the assembly members.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramesh Singh Arora highlighted the importance of the session, noting that the Chief Minister had emphasized that minorities are "the crown of our heads," leading to the decision to hold this special assembly session.
The assembly also passed resolutions paying tribute to national hero Arshad Nadeem and condemning Israeli attacks on Gaza, including the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh. The special session saw the participation of foreign diplomats, who joined in the assembly’s acknowledgment of these significant issues.
Opposition leader Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar presented a resolution condemning the Israeli attacks on Gaza and the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh, which was also passed by the assembly.
Additionally, government member Samiullah Khan introduced a resolution to honor Arshad Nadeem, who has brought international recognition to Pakistan. Samiullah Khan urged that Nadeem be officially declared a national hero for his achievements.
During the session, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman presented the Enforcement and Regulation Punjab Bill 2024.
Government member Amjad Ali Javed requested that the bill be presented in Urdu as well as English, prompting the Speaker to rule that all future bills should be presented in both languages in the assembly.
